WIP Update

This is where I'm at after 22 hours of work, and I would guess there could be another 20 hours to go, as you can see i've put down the first layer on his right leg and have also started on his left leg, the paws are the most trying part at the moment as there not shown on the photograph I'm working from, so Im using references from other Tiger pics, still no name for this piece.....

And so after a few more hours of work this is where I am with drawing with no name, most of todays drawing time has been taken up with the right side of the face and the whiskers, also managed to draw in some of the chest and right leg, more tomorrow I hope.

WIP

Not to much time at the drawing board today, but thought I would post an update, refined the whiskers a little, and for a change of scenery started working down the leg, hope to post more over the weekend.

Dejavu

Well here we go again, after 13 hours of re-drawing the Tiger I am approx back to where I was when it all went terribly wrong!! this time I have negatively drawn in the whiskers and hidden the indenter in the draw, I will refine them later... will post more as I progress.

A Lesson learnt!

This was to be my new piece of work, until after 6 hours of drawing I decided to attempt the first whisker by indenting into the paper, having practiced a few times with different darning needle points etc I made my first mark and knew straight away that not only was it not wide enough for the whisker in proportion to the drawing but it was also not smooth enough to give a realistic effect, I had considered drawing them using the negative drawing effect and now wish I had tried that first. I have tried to disguise the damage by drawung leaves in the background but in my eyes it still stands out and slaps you in the face, so this is now heading for the filing cabinet marked dustbin, and I am starting all over again.... not a waste of time really as another lesson has been learned.......

up close and personal!

Finished this piece sooner than expected, drawing time approx 25 hours, size is 8 x 5inches, drawn on Mellotex paper, using 4b, 2b, hb, and 2h Grahite, I seemed to have spent more time sharpening the 4b pencil than I have drawing, but I'm fairly pleased with the outcome, hope you like it too, all comments welcome.

New Work update

As you can see the head is almost finished, just a little amount of editing needed around the ear, then onto the body, I now see stripes when I close my eyes....hope to have this finished by the weekend.

New Work

It's been a few days since my last posting due to work and family commitments, but here is my new WIP, no prizes for guessing its a head portrait of a Zebra! I have shown progress over three days, with a close up of the eye area showing the indenting technique used for the eye lashes, drawn on mellotex paper, size when completed will be approx 8 x 5 inches.

Caught in the Act

After approx 35+ hours I'm calling this piece finished. Seeing it develop from the top left hand corner to a finish in the bottom right hand corner has been the most enjoyable part of this drawing for me, Image size is approx 8 x 5 inches, drawn on Mellotex paper which is the only paper I will be using from now on, due to its strength, I only used 3 pencils 2h hb and 2b, and lots of Blue tac, hope you enjoy looking at this as much as I did drawing it, all comments welcome.

''Molly'' English Setter WIP

I started this new work yesterday, and as of this evening have spent approx 12 hours working away trying to get her looking right, she belongs to a couple of friends Roger and Marina, and was photographed by a mutual friend who gave me permission to use the image, there is another full days drawing and refining work left, until I can call her finished, so I hope to post the completed drawing tomorrow.

Horse's Head Study WIP

Whilst out in the country side near to home a few days ago, I met a young rider who very kindly let me photograph her horse, I have a couple of full body shots which I may draw later but wanted to first attempt a head study as I've never drawn a horse before except when I was 3 1/2 years old ( see earlier posting) what you see here is the progress I've made after approx 12 hours, size is 7.5 x 5 inches on Bristol Board, all comments welcome.

Char's Green Bucket

My sister is a big fan of Sherree Valentine Daines, one of her favourite paintings is titled ''Green Bucket'' as it reminds her of her daughter Charlotte when she was younger going for a paddle in the sea with her own Green bucket, as far as we know it's not available as a print, so as it was her birthday last week I decided to try and copy this painting with a few alterations so as not to make it an exact copy, but something a little more personal to my sister. I've been working on this in secret for approx a week, the size is approx 11 x 5 inches drawn on Stonehenge paper with Derwent Artist Coloured Pencils.

Biscuit Completed

I'm suprised how much I enjoyed this coloured pencil drawing, maybe it's because I know him so well, the finished size is approx 5.5 x 5.5 inches, on Stonehenge Paper, and I used Derwent Artist coloured Pencils. All comments welcome

Biscuit Progress

After being away since last Friday celebrating my sisters birthday with the rest of my family, I've only had chance to work on this peice for a few hours this morning, a fair bit of progress has been made, as you have to lay down a number of layers to get the depth of colour your require, I'm hoping to finish this head study tomorrow.

Biscuit WIP

This is an old Boxer dog I used to own who goes by the name of Biscuit, named because he is the same colour as a ginger biscuit, he is now around 9 years old and although going grey he is still full of life, I thought I would attempt to draw him in coloured pencils, and to be honest I have no idea how to use them so it's a case of just diving in and give them a go! I'm using Derwent Artist pencils on Stonehenge paper, I'll post more as I go along, all comments welcome
